Description of the publication.
The edition of the handwritten reconstruction of the Word about Igor's Campaign was published in 2015 on 80 pages in an ultra-small edition. For the book block, we used handmade paper, specially designed for the work of our handwriting workshop. This paper allows you to convey the smallest details of the font, the color scheme of miniatures. An individual feature of this paper is a filigree (watermark) with the image of St. George the Victorious - the heavenly patron of Knyaz Igor
The handwritten text that is reproduced in this edition is written in semi-scriptural calligraphy. This manuscript is the third handwritten reconstruction of the “Word” by the Kiev lawyer and calligrapher Khrapai Yuriy. The manuscript was made in 2014-2015 and is decorated with initials, headpieces, miniatures. All of them are made in the style traditional for Cyrillic manuscripts of the XV-XVI centuries.
In addition to the facsimile reproduction of the handwritten text of the Lay about Igor's Campaign, the publication presents a modern reconstruction of the text of the Lay. The handwritten text and its reconstruction contain corrections. In particular, words and letters missed by the scribe were added, and the spelling of individual words and phrases was also changed. Such changes in the traditional text were carried out on the basis of interpretations of certain "dark places" of the poem. These interpretations are based on the research and reconstruction of a number of authoritative researchers and connoisseurs of the Lay, in particular V. Peretz, V. Rzhiga, V. Sklyarenko, O. Suleimenov, B. Yatsenko
The division of some words and phrases in the reconstruction of the text of the “Word”, as well as the reading of a number of “dark places” is presented in the interpretation of the above researchers, as well as taking into account the works of other experts in the “Word”, in particular L. Makhnovets, N. Semikodub, M. Weaver and others.
Each of the 5 copies of this edition is unique due to differences in the color of the leather of the binding, decorative elements, endpapers, book block materials. Microcirculation makes them worthy gems of a private collection or a museum collection.
Each copy is numbered and certified by the signature of the author of the handwritten reconstruction.
